CARPE DIEM DAY
National Day Calendar is seizing the day on February 26 in celebration of National Carpe Diem Day! We are being mindful and living in the present moment to enjoy life the only way we know how: To Celebrate Every Day with intention and gratitude!
#CARPEDIEMDAY
We all have those 'someday' moments--saying things like, 'someday I’m going to write that book' or 'someday I’m finally going to visit that friend I haven't seen in years.' National Carpe Diem Day is our official reminder that today is that day! Why wait for a 'perfect' time that may never come? Take the leap and do something now, while the opportunity is right in front of you.
We live in a world filled with smartphones and constant distractions. Putting our phones down and taking the time to notice the small details happens less frequently than we’d like to admit. Wouldn't it be nice to slow down and truly pay attention to the world around us? So, what’s stopping you? Put the phone down. Be fully present with the people you love. Stop living on autopilot—take notice of that sunset, finally eat at that restaurant you’ve been eyeing, or take the long way to work just to see a different view.
5 WAYS TO CELEBRATE CARPE DIEM DAY
There so many ways to embrace Carpe Diem Day, it was difficult deciding what to list. We decided to keep things simple because carpe diem means being mindful and present! Here is our quick list:
Do that one thing you've been putting off--skydiving, taking a dance class, or booking a trip to a dream destination.
Turn off all of your devices 60 minutes before bed. Focus on what is happening in the now and let your brain and body absorb some quiet.
Take a long, intentional walk in nature, focusing on the sights and sounds.
Plan a Carpe Diem themed dinner party! Encourage your guests wear their best and make it a night of glitz and glam.
Visit a family member or friend you haven't seen in awhile. Catch up on life and make a pact to not wait so long to visit the next time.
The Founder: Yvette Francino
National Carpe Diem Day was founded in 2020 by Yvette Francino in honor of her friend, Craig Dunham. Despite an ALS diagnosis in 2008, Craig lived a "Carpe Diem" lifestyle. He was known for his vibrant energy, his intense love for life, and his ability to make every moment count. Craig lost his battle with ALS in 2010. Yvette led efforts such as ALS Walks for Team Carpe Diem honoring Craig, with CD emblems shaped like a heart—Craig's initials—representing his Carpe Diem attitude.
