NATIONAL CHERRY TART DAY

National Cherry Tart Day is a tart dispute. While usually observed on June 17, it is also suggested that June 18 and 21 are also the days for this unofficial food holiday. To be on the safe side, make three to celebrate on each day.

The cherry tart has a long history, but unlike the actual date of this delicious food holiday. the cherry tart dates back to Michigan during mid-1800s. As we know, Michigan is one of the largest, if not the largest, producer of tart cherries in the U.S. However, the cherry tart seems to have a similar recipe that dates prior to the 1800s.

Some people believe the cherry tart is very similar to the Crostata di ricotta e visciole. This Roman Jewish tart is made with with ricotta and sour cherry jam and is believed to have originated in during the the 18th century as a way to circumvent the sale of dairy products by Jews. Whether this is true or not, we can all agree the cherry tart we know today is versatile and enjoyable dessert featuring a cherry filling within a pastry crust.

A cherry tart can be made in various ways and enjoyed with different toppings. It's also up to you if you want to celebrate on June 17, June 18 or June 21. The end result will be the same--a sweet and lip-smacking dessert with a cherry filling!
