NATIONAL WEDDING PLANNING DAY

National Wedding Planning Day on March 1st celebrates the journey from the marriage proposal to the altar. And even though the big day gets all the glory, there is a whole world of creativity, logistics, and heart that happens behind the scenes. Today we celebrate the planners behind those scenes who make the magic come to life.

Now that the dust has settle from the winter holidays, including Valentine's Day, it's time to address all the marriage proposals that have occurred the past few months. National Wedding Planning Day is the perfect time to announce the official kickoff for wedding planners to begin the hard work of planning a wedding.

A wedding planner is a professional consultant who assists with the design, planning, and management of a client's wedding. They act as the project manager, creative director, and logistical expert for one of the most personal and events a couple will ever host.

An estimated 2.8 million couples get engaged in the U.S. each year. It's no surprise why wedding planning is notorious for being stressful. Finding venues, tasting cakes, and setting budgets is a lot to keep track of alongside your daily life. Wedding planners are the answer to relieving this stress so you and your significant other can focus on saying "I do."

Choosing the Right Wedding Planner

On average, a wedding takes 200-350 hours to plan. Hiring a planner takes the workload off the couple so they can focus on what is important--the engagement and planning their future. Wedding planners help create a realistic budget, track payments, and finding ways to save money without compromising the quality of your wedding day wish list. Most importantly, they act as a neutral third party when family dynamics get complicated and handle emergencies on the day of the wedding. Here are a three tips to help you find the right planner:

  1. Decide if you need a full-service planner to handle all the details or a partial planner because you will do some of the planning work yourself.

  2. Interview a few different wedding planners to help find the best fit for your needs. Remember, you're going to be working with this person for the next few months and it's important to form a great collaboration, a friendship, to ensure your wants and needs are being met.

  3. Decide how often you want to meet with your planner. Do you meet once a month or once a week? Frequent meetings with your planner keeps you up-to-date on the progress of the entire process. It's also an opportunity for you to review your budget as planning progresses.

5 NATIONAL WEDDING PLANNING DAY CELEBRATION IDEAS

Wedding planners are the "unsung heroes" of the big day. They work behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly, always going above and beyond. Showing them gratitude is important and here's how you can do that:

  1. Give a great review online, especially if your wedding planner is a small business. A five-star review showcases the wedding planners commitment and helps attract future business.

  2. Give your planner permission to use wedding photos for their portfolio. This will help them showcase their services and give them viewable proof of their services.

  3. Share their business information or personally introduce your planner to another future bride/groom. Personal introductions are proof they are a professional that provides results. It's also a good way to showcase them as being an excellent choice for another couple.

  4. Gift a tip of (usually 10–20% of the planning fee) to your planner with a handwritten "Thank You" note after the wedding celebration. Planners are known to keep mementoes of the weddings they've previously planned. They often use them as a reminder they were allowed to make a difference in someone's happiness and why they entered the profession in the first place.

  5. Share your wedding planner gratitude, photos, and recommendation on social media using the hashtag #NationalWeddingPlannerDay. Don't forget to tag your wedding planner, too!
