WORLD MILK DAY

WORLD MILK DAY

Real milk takes the spotlight on June 1 as we celebrate World Milk Day! This yummy National Day not only celebrates milk, but also brings attention to activities connecting the dairy sector.

#WorldMilkDay

World Milk Day focuses attention on milk to raise awareness of the impact it has on our diets, the impact milk has on our food production, and honors the livelihood of those who produce milk.

Consuming milk products, such as yogurt or cheese, provides essential vitamins and minerals to help us maintain a healthy lifestyle. Milk provides calcium for bone health, high-quality protein, and essential vitamins like B12 and D. It can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes. Milk is also a good source of potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure.

According to Dairy Producer, Americans consume an average of 661 pounds of dairy products per person each year, including cheese, milk and yogurt.

In 2023, Americans consumed an average of 661 pounds of dairy per person, including milk, cheese, and yogurt. However, studies show drinking milk in the U.S. has been on the decline since about 2000. In the 1980s, more than 50 percent of the dairy products regulated by the USDA was beverage milk. By 2015, that had dropped to 33 percent. Prompting the downward trend, according to market watchers, is the annual decline in the market consumption of ready-to-eat cereals.

Nearly one billion lives are impacted by the dairy sector each day. More than six billion people globally consume dairy products, making it a $413.8 billion market. Interestingly, China is the fastest-growing dairy market. Europe, the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and Argentina are the primary dairy-producing countries.
