NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ALCOHOL AWARENESS WEEK

National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week brings campuses together to improve awareness and responsibility where alcohol consumption is concerned. The observance takes place in the third full week in October.

According to a 2017 National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism survey, more than half (53.6%) of full-time college students drink alcohol in the past month. In the same period, 34.8 percent of full-time students participated in binge drinking.

The campaign offers promotions on education, prevention, research, network, and other initiatives. Campuses across the country provide programs on eliminating substance abuse, specifically focusing on the effects it has on campus.

Impaired driving not only can cost a student their college career, but it can also take a life. Part of the focus of the campaign includes raising awareness, promoting responsibility, and eliminating alcohol abuse.

Additional strategies of the campaign include safety tips, responsibility, and respect for the law. While initiatives vary from campus to campus, social media, radio, and television may be enlisted to provide additional information.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NCAAW

College students can participate in a variety of activities offered on their campus. If your college or university doesn't organize events as part of NCAAW, initiate a campaign.
