#SOCIALMEDIAGIVINGDAY
We are living in a digital age where we spend time on social media sharing our lives with family and friends. We connect with people from across the globe by communicating, entertaining, and learning from other cultures. On National Social Media Day, let's all use social media as a tool to do something good online.
Social media platforms present unique opportunities for businesses and companies to interact and attract followers. Using social media as a business plan leads to increased awareness of a business, cause, or important information. For example, National Day Calendar uses social media platforms as a way to share National Days listed on our calendar. Our personal goal is to spread happiness and joy around the world. We love giving people reasons to be grateful by celebrating moments in our daily lives. The power of social media especially helps charitable organizations get their message across and raise funds for causes.
In the early 2000s, nonprofit organizations began to learn the effectiveness of harnessing social media for the greater good. The idea of utilizing a tool to raise awareness and host fundraising campaigns helped create online presence, encouraging support through volunteering and donations. Today, social media plays a significant factor in how organization engage with others. It also helps these organizations encourage and promote causes that might not normally get attention otherwise.
Social Media for Good
Many organizations have the ability to target specific audiences, meaning they can search out individuals who have the same interests. Social media allows you to connect with hundreds and thousands of people who are willing to provide support. By sharing stories, posts, and news on social media, we encourage others to learn about what we are sharing. The more something is shared, the more likely it will have an impact. In addition, organizations are able to motivate followers with similar interests such as theirs. This leads to donations and additional support of charitable events not only locally, but also around the world.
How to Use Social Media to Promote a Cause
On Social Media Giving Day, let's dedicate time and energy by using social media as a tool to increase engagement for your cause. However, many nonprofit organizations have limited funds to hire an individual or agency to create the right content. We want to help you have a successful campaign and are sharing tips on how to prepare for your online success.
Create compelling content that will convey your message. Use visuals, such as images of people. Real life examples always create an emotion for any audiences. Including videos of people sharing their story is a good place way to get attention.
Seek out influencers on social media platforms who are passionate about your cause. Influencers already have a huge following of people who are interested in what they are posting about. Remember, by gaining the support of an influencer who supports your cause, you will also get the attention of the followers of that influence.
Be diligent in sharing your content. Showing your followers you are passionate about what you are doing will lead to increased awareness and donations. Plus, repeated awareness helps remind people to take another look.
Be transparent about where donations are going by providing links to details about your cause. This simple act will show supporters and donors you are sincere and have good values.
Not all social media campaigns show success immediately. It's important to stay on top of what you are sharing. Interact with your followers, share additional information, and continue to encourage people to support your efforts to make a difference.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA GIVING DAY
When used properly, social media can be powerful. No other tool in the world provides an opportunity to bring people together and leverage a cause. Creating positivity on Social Media Giving Day not only reinforces the good in people, but also reinforces that we can make a difference in the world. Encourage people on social media to donate to a cause or volunteer. A little goes a long way. Share your story, cause, or thoughts about Social Media Giving Day using the hashtag #SocialMediaGivingDay.
WHO IS THE CREATOR OF SOCIAL MEDIA GIVING DAY?
Chris Sommers receives credit for creating Social Media Giving Day in 2013. Through his technology giver.com, he came up with a way to encourage users to make donations to nonprofit organizations. Unfortunately, the technology is no longer available. However, we consider Chris a pioneer with his idea. His vision to give to organizations online continues a decade later.
