WORLD NEVER GIVE UP DAY
Today is August 18 on the National Day Calendar, and we are celebrating World Never Give Up Day. This day is more than a celebration--it's a global movement that honors the often unrecognized but unyielding spirit of determination. On World Never Give Up Day, people around the world are encouraged to reflect on their goals, reignite their passions, and embrace the inner strength it takes to keep pushing forward.
#WorldNeverGiveUpDay
The message of "Never Give Up" resonates across cultures and communities. It reminds us that resilience is a universal trait we all possess. Whether you’re working toward a lifelong dream, fighting through tough times, or simply getting through your daily challenges, World Never Give Up Day reminds us that persistence often matters more than talent or luck. Today, we are encouraging everyone to keep going--no matter the odds.
Never Give Up Day is about more than survival — it’s about thriving through struggle, and finding strength in the very moments when giving up feels easier.
Every great achievement has been powered by someone who refused to give up. In fact, we all possess the resilience and determination to overcome obstacles. Whether your achievement is big or small, that determination behind your goal is the common thread. We all have a warrior spirit inside of us encouraging us to keep moving, even when things feel challenging.
Tips to Achieve
Achieving any goal takes more than just motivation. It takes a mindset shift, a change in daily habits, and a belief in yourself that you are capable of getting to your end result. Here are a few tips to help you stay the course from start to finish:
Choose a goal that matters to you. Whether your goal is personal, professional, or physical, it should be something meaningful. Breaking down large goals into smaller parts will help you feel less overwhelmed and more likely help you stick with it.
Create a routine to track your progress and remember to stay flexible. As long as you're moving forward, you're making progress.
Be kind and stay positive about the progress you're making. If you're exhausted, take a break. It's better to reset your mind and body than to abandon your goal entirely.
Celebrate your progress! Your growth during the process of reaching your goal is just as important as the goal. Be proud of all you accomplishments as a reminder to yourself of how far you’ve come and what you’re capable of.
Feeling Discouraged is Normal
People deserve to celebrate what they have achieved, including what they were going through to achieve that goal. Feeling discouraged is part of the journey and even the most determined people experience moments of doubt. What matters is the determination that pushes us forward through that doubt. As long as we acknowledge our setbacks without letting them define us, we grow stronger and more resilient.
Interestingly, World Never Give Up Day also opens up the conversation of whether or not it's okay to give up. The short answer is, YES!
If the goal you set for yourself drains your well-being or directs you away from your true purpose, then walking away is ok. For example, walking away from a situation that puts you in harm or is an unfulfilling pursuit can be an act of self-awareness. It's ok change the dynamic and put your energy towards something better or more fulfilling. It's not always about giving up. It's also about restoring confidence and maintaining a positive thought process for yourself.

HISTORY BEHIND NEVER GIVE UP DAY

World Never Give Up Day Logo
Never Give Up Day was founded by Alain Horoit, aka “Mr. Never Give Up,” in 2019. He initiated this amazing movement to celebrate perseverance and resilience after his own personal journey. Marked by challenges and setbacks, Horoit became inspired to create a day that honored the unwavering spirit of individuals who persist in the face of adversity. Through his efforts, he is becoming a world leader in spreading the world to never give up!
In 2025, Alain submitted Never Give Up Day to National Day Calendar in hopes of making the day a permanent day on the Calendar. The Registrar at National Day Calendar approved the day to be celebrated each year on August 18. After careful consideration, it was decided Never Give Up Day would change its name to World Never Give Up day to reflect the fast growing movement around the world.
Join us as we encourage everyone to reflect on their goals, reignite their passions, and embrace the inner strength it takes to keep pushing forward.
