Start your school week off right with breakfast! National School Breakfast Week runs the first full week in March. This week increases awareness of school breakfast programs and all of the reasons why a nutritious breakfast keeps us running strong all day long.

During the week, schools put their breakfast programs on display through exciting contests and promotions. That's why you could visit your local school this week and see decorations, events, special menu items, and other fun events.

Benefits of celebrating NSBW include an increase in student participation in the daily breakfasts. Also, it can alert parents to the availability of healthy and tasty breakfasts at school.

NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK HISTORY

In 1966, The School Breakfast Program (SBP) was established as a two-year pilot project to assist schools serving breakfasts to "nutritionally needy" children. Congress continued to expand the program until 1975 when they permanently established the School Breakfast Program. In 1989, National School Breakfast Week was launched.
